On this week's episode of Goals on Film, Jason and Kieran discuss 2021 biographical tennis drama, King Richard.

King Richard is a film based on the true story of Richard Williams (Will Smith), the father of Venus (Saniyya Sidney) and Serena (Demi Singelton), and his plan and vision for their greatness in the sport. Hailing from Compton, California, Richard sets out to find the girls coaches, and do what's best for them in order to make it onto the professional circuit.

Despite Venus finding some success in juniors with initial coach Paul Cohen (Tony Goldwyn), Richard pulls them out of playing, believing they'll be taken advantage of. This however, doesn't stop him from enlisting the services of another coach, Rick Macci (Jon Bernthal), who helps Venus towards her first professional match where she grows a legion of fans for her performance, and the impact she had.

Goals on Film discuss the accuracy to the story, helped by having members of the family on set and credited with executive producer roles, as well as taking a look at the acting performances of the cast with a deep-dive into the role that helped Will Smith win his first-ever Oscar.
