It's award season once again in Hollywood, with the 79th Golden Globe Awards taking place today. The event was toned down from what it usually is, with the ceremony being private with no streams or broadcasts.

Steven Spielberg's West Side Story, Jane Campion'sThe Power of the Dogand HBO'sSuccessionwere among the big winners of the night taking home awards from multiple categories.

Rachel Zegler won Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical for her performance as Maria inWest Side Story, with fellow actress Ariana DeBose winning best-supporting actress for her performance as Anita in the 2021 adaption.

With the movie musical also taking out Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy, edging out films likeTik Tik...BoomandDon't Look up.

It was also a big night for the Australians with the likes of Nicole Kidman (Being the Ricardos), Sarah Snook (Succession) and Kodi Smit-McPhee (Power of the Dog) taking home awards in their respective categories.

Snook wasn't the only member of theSuccessioncast taking home a Golden Globe with Jeremy Strong taking home the award for Best Performance by an Actor in a TV Series - Drama for his role as Kendall Roy.

The show itself also took home an award, winning the award for best TV series- Drama, after the release of the shows third season.

Will Smith won his first-ever Golden Globe for his performance inKing Richardin the Best Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama category.

Andrew Garfield is on the way to winning an Oscar with his performance in the Netflix movieTick Tick...Boomafter winning the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical.

That wasn't the only Netflix film to score a Golden Globe with the filmThe Power of the Dogwinning the major category of Best Motion Picture, as well as New Zealand director Jane Campion, winning the Golden Globe for Best Director- Motion Picture.

In a history-making winPosestar Michaela Jae (MJ) Rodriguez became the first trans actress to win a Golden Globe, receiving the award in Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series — Drama.
