Mercer wins gold with their new Limited Release Wines

It’s been only a few short days since the launch of Mercer’s Limited Release Wines, but their debut has been highlighted by winning Gold at three wine shows. 

The 2021 Limited Release Shiraz was awarded Gold at the 50th anniversary of the esteemed Hunter Valley Wine show. But the Gold didn’t stop there. 

Only one week later, Mercer received Gold for both the Limited Release Semillon and Shiraz at the NSW Small Winemakers Show in Forbes. 

And to top it off, these wines also won Best Current Shiraz and Best Current Semillon at the Hunter Boutique Wine Show, with the Shiraz being awarded Best Red of Show.

At the NSW Small Winemakers Show, Mercer was also awarded a top Gold and a trophy for their 2021 Montepulciano. Mercer Wines were also crowned Most Successful New Exhibitor with an amazing three Golds, a Silver and a Bronze.

The new Limited Release range of Mercer Wines capitalises and honours the established varieties of the Hunter Valley region. The debut wines showcase the region with a sparkling and a Chardonnay both from Tumbarumba in the pipeline.

For Mercer, these wines are a passion project, being produced when the greatest parcels of fruit come into the winery. These wines are built to be age-worthy and exemplary examples of a region.

“These wines are the result of working with local growers from esteemed vineyards who enable us to source the fruit to make classic styles that best represent the Hunter region," Aaron Mercer said.

"The fact we are receiving such great accolades for our first vintage is testament to the quality of the fruit and perhaps a little wine-making know how."

Mercer Limited Release Semillon 2021 RRP $40 

Nothing is more distinctive than Hunter Semillon and this stunning example comes from a named vineyard and put through a basket press to ensure a softer handling. The resultant wine is a bold example of young Hunter Semillon showing pristine fruit, a soft chalky mouthfeel and a great line of natural acidity. 

Mercer Limited Release Shiraz 2021 RRP $60 

The Shiraz is an example of what the region is famed for. Shiraz sourced from the upper Hunter as well as Pokolbin to create a harmonious red that is ready to drink now or stored in a cellar for a while. Bright and vibrant on the nose this exhibits quintessential Hunter character with well-integrated oak and a lavish fruit palate.
