Australia's biggest day in music has come to a close with The Wiggles' performance coveringTame Impala's hit song Elephantfor triple j's Like a Version being voted as Australia's top song of 2021.

It's the first year that a Like a Version song has taken out top honours, with the top three all including Australian artists for after non-Australians top out the top song for the past two years with UK band Glass Animals'Heat Waveswinning the 2020 countdown and Billie Eilish'sBad Guysitting at number one for 2019.

However, aside from the top three, it was one of the worst-performing years for Aussie artists with only 55 entries including an Australian artist — the lowest since 2015 which only saw Australian artists represented 54 times.

25 artists made their debut on the hottest 100 list this year and August was the top-performing month for releases, with several "songs of the summer" (by the Northern Hemisphere's standards) making the list.

Olivia Rodrigo and Doja Cat featured frequently throughout the count, with both artists entering the list five times. Doja Cat was the sole artist to appear three times within a stretch of 10 songs (31, 34, 37) and Olivia Rodrigo was the highest-ranked lead female vocalist withgood 4 uclocking in at number four in the countdown

It was a year for records with Billie Eilish becoming the first artist in triple j history to make the top 10 in four consecutive years withHappier Than Ever. Meanwhile, the Wiggles had another record to their name, with former Purple Wiggle Jeff Fatt becoming the oldest artist to take out number one.

Meanwhile, Peking Duk made the list for the eighth consecutive year withChemicalsfinishing at number 42.
