Republic of Korea v Morocco

Morocco had an ideal start, when in the first attacking foray, Ibtissam Jraidi was on the end of a cross from Hanane Ait El Haj to whip a header into the back of the net and give the North African side the lead.

It was the first ever Women's World Cup goal for the Moroccan side in their debut campaign, but that didn't slow them down at all.

Jraidi continued to be an attacking threat for much of the first half, pouncing on any half-step space to try and take an opportunity to double the lead. Only the stout work of Jung-Mi Kim kept her from another goal.

As the match wore on, both sides tired, but the goalkeepers stood strong, and kept any further raids at bay, and Morocco was able to celebrate it's first ever Women's World Cup win.

Norway v Philippines

After a sluggish start to the tournament, Norway finally found its feet. Sophie Haug got the scoring underway for the Norwegians against the World Cup debutants, but it was more like a dam breaking.

Haug doubled the lead less than 15 minutes later, and Caroline Hansen got in on the action too. After the break, an own goal and a penalty blew out the margin before the Philippines even had a chance to catch their breath, before Haug finished the match with her hattrick in added time.

The win was a positive for the Netherlands, who sealed their spot in the knockouts, while it was devastation for the Philippines, whose strong start to their first appearance at the tournament was diminished somewhat by this loss.

Switzerland v New Zealand

It was all on the line for the co-hosts, who needed a win against Switzerland to progress to the Round of 16. Despite their best efforts, neither side could find a way through the defence of the other.

It was a tough ask for the Football Ferns, who faced a Swiss side that only needed a draw to progress, and who were happy to play like a scoreless draw was their ideal result. For the co-hosts, knowing that a goal was needed, it was a frustrating result.

Jacqui Hand tried her best, with a zinging volley that couldn't be stopped by the Swiss defence, only to be denied by the woodwork, while Hannah Wilkinson was outnumbered at every opportunity, as the Football Ferns watched time, and their hopes, drain away.

Colombia v Germany

In a pulsating match, the first shot was fired by the referee, as neither side could find enough space in the first half. Coming out of the break, it was time for the Linda Caicedo Show.

Caicedo's opening number was a run through the corner of the penalty area, finding space amid two German defenders turning them inside out, before the 18 year old curled a shot into the top corner where nothing could get in the way, breaking the deadlock and sending the crowd into raptures.

Colombia looked headed for a 1-0 win, before Catalina Perez was booked for an attempted save in the dying minutes of regulation, giving Alexandre Popp a chance to step up to the penalty spot and equalise.

The draw looked to be the most likely outcome five minutes into added time, before a Colombian corner found the head of Manuela Vanegas, who sent it into the top corner and the back of the net to steal an upset victory, setting the stadium alight for a second time.
