Eloise Jones: A consistent season in the making is already earning accolades

Eloise Jones was shocked to learn she'd earned all 10 coaches votes, her focus remains on contributing to the team and improving her consistency.

Eloise Jones has gone from strength to strength this year, but despite garnering attention from both coaches, her focus is firmly on improving consistency and contributing to the team.

The wingers' 20 disposal, seven mark, four tackle game earned her the maximum 10 coaches votes, something she was surprised to learn on Monday.

"I just got told before. I was a little bit shocked. I guess thank you to all the coaches, I appreciate it," Jones said.

"May have been career-best, but hopefully there's maybe a little bit more to come. But I was happy with how I played and hopefully I can just continue that for the rest of the season."

After the Crows' win over North Melbourne in Round Two,Jones spoke to theEdge of the Crowdand flagged her consistencyas one of the areas she was keen to improve this season.

Averaging 14 disposals, an increase of five from her 2021 average, Jones is also up on her tackles by almost one per game, and averages 254 metres gained.

"I think it is definitely a lot better for me this year, I had a bit of a dip in the Melbourne game, but I think from then I've been relatively consistent with my performance, which I'm really happy about and that's all I really wanted to work on coming into this season and I think I've done alright in that space.

"So hopefully it keeps going with the season not over yet, so I guess there is room for downfall but hopefully not and sort of going upwards," Jones laughed.

Her role has also changed a bit in the last two seasons. Drafted as a forward, she has found her feet on the wing in 2022 after spending more time leading up the ground last year.

"So I'm playing up on the wing this year, and in the last season as well, which I've really liked.

"Obviously, in the start of my career I was in the forward line and then I think I just ended up running out the forward line, so Doc cracked it and started putting me on the wing instead, and I really liked it up there.

"It's been good fun and allows me to get a bit more run through my game and I really enjoy being out there."

Not one to talk about her own game too much, Jones said she was just happy to be contributing to a side that - apart from one close loss to the Bulldogs in Round Six - is flying this year.

"I think as a team, we're doing really, really well. I'm happy I can contribute in some areas.

"I think every time you come into the team, you want to at least be able to contribute and help win in some sense.

"And I think everyone's coming in and playing a fantastic role. You've seen Chelsea Biddell and stuff like that down back, and Chooky (Brooke Tonon) on the weekend as a debutant played a fantastic game.

"So, I think as a whole team effort, we've been playing fantastically and I'm just super happy that I can be in such a fantastic team."

The Crows aren't satisfied with their 40 point win on the weekend, especially as they recorded a new AFLW record: "most behinds in an AFLW game - go Crows!" joked Jones.

Hitting the training track from Monday night to prepare for their next match, a trip to Perth to face Fremantle, Jones admitted goal kicking would almost certainly be on the agenda for the Crows this week.

"Probably goal kicking would be the big one. Obviously the big ones on the weekend [were] no good.

"So definitely probably a focus this week on some goal kicking. We're really happy with our ball movement and our pressure and our contest. So we'll still work in those phases of the game, but definitely, I reckon [Monday] will be a training of goal kicking, hopefully."

There were fears of a serious knee injury to Erin Phillips, however, the star has been cleared of major damage.

"She had scans yesterday, and it's just a sprain through there, so not quite sure how long that'll be," Jones clarified on Monday.

"She'll obviously be assessed by the medical staff this week, but obviously fantastic news ACL and everything is all good, so probably the best outcome that we could've had."

"It'll be a track and see how she's feeling and how the knee takes up. Obviously, there's no pressure for her to get back early or re-injure or anything like that. So it'll completely be up to her and the doctors, and how she's feeling."
