Australians were involved in breaking records at both Minor League Baseball, and Major League Baseball levels as one hot-hitter has earnt a spot on his organisation's MLB gameday roster.

MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL

LOW A

LIAM SPENCE - MYRTLE BEACH PELICANS

Victorian Liam Spence appeared in three games for the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, the Chicago Cubs' Low A affiliate, as the team was away at Haley Toyota Field taking on the Salem Red Sox.

On May 4, in a 24-6 victory, Spence went zero for one, coming on as a pinch-hitter to lead off the top of the ninth inning, reaching first base on a fielding error, though he was later forced out at second base on a Cole Roederer hit.

Spence was added back into the starting lineup for the 9-6 win on May 7 and went one for three with an RBI and a base on balls.

At the top of the fifth inning, he drew a walk which loaded the bases, going to second base on a Pete Crow-Armstrong single, but was forced out at third base on a James Triantos hit. At the top of the eighth inning, he scored a single with a hit into centrefield, which brought home BJ Murray Jr., with Spence making his way to second before the inning was over.

In the final game of the series on May 8, the Pelicans won 8-3, with Spence going two for three, scoring two runs.

Spence first hit a single into centrefield to lead-off the top of the third inning, advancing to second base on a Pete Crow-Armstrong single and to third base on a James Triantos single. Spence scored on a sacrifice flyout by Cole Roederer.

Spence was again the lead-off hitter at the top of the fourth inning, making it to first base on a line drive to shortstop, scoring his second run when Triantos doubled into right field.

HIGH A

JARRYD DALE - FORT WAYNE TINCAPS

Victorian Jarryd Dale appeared in five games for the Fort Wayne TinCaps, the San Diego Padres' High A affiliate, in an away series to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at Fox Cities Stadium.

In the first game of the series on May 3, which resulted in a 9-9 TinCaps loss, Dale went two for four at the plate, hitting a single into right field at the top of the second innings, and a single to shortstop at the top of the fourth innings. While he stole second base on the latter of the two instances, he couldn't advance and score on either occasion.

On May 4, in another shutout loss which went 4-0 the way of the Timber Rattlers, Dale again went two for four, hitting a double into centrefield at the top of the fourth inning, and while he was able to get to third base, he couldn't complete a run home as the next batters fell. Dale then singled into right field at the top of the sixth inning, and got to second base on a wild pitch, before being tagged out trying to score at home on a Justin Lopez single.

While Dale went zero for three in the May 5 matchup, which the TinCaps won 4-3, he did receive a base on balls at the top of the ninth inning, making his way to second base on a Lopez single. An Anthony Vilar single into centrefield saw Dale score from second.

Dale returned on May 7 and went zero for four in a 6-3 loss, however, came back with a two for four game on May 8, which ended in another narrow 4-3 loss to the TinCaps.

Dale hit a lead-off single into right field and stole second base during Angel Solarte's at-bat, with Solarte hit a double into left field, allowing Dale to score the first run of the game. Dale also hit a single into left field at the top of the eighth inning, but was caught trying to steal second base by fellow Australian catcher Alex Hall.

JACK O'LOUGHLIN - WEST MICHIGAN WHITECAPS

South Australian Jack O'Loughlin appeared in two games for the West Michigan Whitecaps, the High A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, in its away series against the Lansing Lugnuts at Jackson Field.

His first appearance of the week was on May 4 in the first game of a doubleheader in which the Whitecaps lost 7-1, with O'Loughlin pitching two innings for two hits and one earned run, with two strikeouts.

O'Loughlin entered the game in the bottom of the fifth inning to replace starter Dylan Smith who had just given up a three-run home run. The reliever got the first batter he faced to groundout before giving up a single, although a double-play ended the innings without any further damage.

Coming back for the bottom of the sixth inning, O'Loughlin gave up a two-run home run after the lead-off batter reached base on an error. After a visit to the mound, the next batter was retired via a pop-out before O'Loughlin got the final two hitters to strike out swinging.

O'Loughlin's next appearance saw him get the start on May 8 in the Whitecaps' 12-1 victory, where he lasted four innings on the mound, giving up one hit, zero runs, three walks, but recording two strikeouts.

In the bottom of the first, while O'Loughlin did give up a walk to the third batter up to the plate, all three of the Lugnuts' outs were groundouts. It was a three-up, three-down inning for O'Loughlin at the bottom of the second, taking just six pitches to retire the side.

O'Loughlin gave up a lead-off walk to begin the bottom of the third inning before each of the next two batters went down in succession, the latter called out on strikes, before the third out was a forceout at second base.

The bottom of the fourth started with two successive groundouts, before he gave up a walk, and single, but after composing himself, he delivered the inning-ending strikeout which saw the batter go down swinging. O'Loughlin was replaced by Gio Arriera for the bottom of the fifth inning.

ULRICH BOJARSKI - WEST MICHIGAN WHITECAPS

West Australians Ulrich Bojarski appeared in three games for Detroit Tigers' High A affiliate, the West Michigan Whitecaps in its away series to the Lansing Lugnuts at Jackson Field.

His week started on May 4 in a 7-1 loss, where he went zero for three at the plate but on May 6, in a 6-5 loss, he went one for five with a run and a base on balls.

Bojarski earned the walk at the top of the first innings, but didn't advance as the final out was recorded; however, at the top of the ninth inning, with the Whitecaps down by one run, he hit a lead-off single into left field. He advanced to second base on a one-out single by Cooper Johnson and tied the scores at five-all when he came home on a Trei Cruz single into right field.

Unfortunately, he flew out to right field in a two-out scenario with runners at first and second at the top of the 10th inning, as the Lugnuts took the walk-off victory, scoring in the bottom half.

On May 8, the Whitecaps won 12-1, with Bojarski going one for five, but with four RBIs as he hit a first-pitch ninth-inning grand slam that scored himself, Wenceel Perez, Chris Meyers, and Ben Malgeri as the side put up eight runs at the top half of the dig on the way to victory.

ALEX HALL - WISCONSIN TIMBER RATTLERS

West Australian Alex Hall made his High A season debut with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, the Milwaukee Brewers' High A affiliate, appearing in two games of the team's home series against the Fort Wayne TinCaps at Fox Cities Stadium.

On May 6, in a 3-2 win, Hall went one for three at the plate, hitting a lead-off single into centrefield to begin the bottom of the fifth inning. He was forced out at second on contact by Yeison Coca.

On May 8, in a 4-3 victory, Hall went one for four with two RBIs, his two-out bases-loaded first-pitch single into right field helping the Timber Rattlers to a walk-off win as Joe Gray Jr. and Tristan Peters scored. When catching, Hall successfully threw two TinCaps runners out trying to steal bases.

AARON WHITEFIELD - ROCKET CITY TRASH PANDAS

Queenslander Aaron Whitefield appeared in five games for the Rocket City Trash Pandas, the Double A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, as the side hosted the Chattanooga Lookouts at Toyota Field, as he extended his hitting streak, surpassing the franchise record of 13 games, to currently hold a hitting streak of 16 games.

His week began on May 3 in a 5-0 win where he went one for three with two walks, two runs and an RBI.

Whitefield earned a lead-off walk to start the bottom of the first innings, making his way to third base on a Livan Soto single into right field, and scoring the first run of the game when a throwing error by the Lookouts' catcher allowed Whitefield to come home.

Whitefield earned another walk in the bottom of the third innings, and with the bases loaded, it scored Zach Humphreys, but Whitefield couldn't advance any further.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Whitefield recorded a singe with a hit that was deflected off of the first baseman Matt Lloyd, and ended up with second baseman Quincy McAfee. Whitefield stole second base which allowed him to score on a Soto double into centrefield.

On May 4, the Trash Pandas went down 13-4, with Whitefield going one for five, hitting a lead-off single into centrefield to begin the bottom of the fourth innings, one which gave him the franchise record for most consecutive games recording a hit. He made his way to third base on a Trey Cabbage single into right field, before scoring on a Braxton Martinez double into centrefield.

On May 5, the Trash Pandas won 3-2, with Whitefield going one for four with a base on balls. He got on base with a lead-off single to begin the bottom of the first inning, but couldn't get past third base, and in the bottom of the ninth innings with the scores at two-all, Whitefield was intentionally walked before Soto ensured a Trash Pandas walk-off win.

On May 6, Whitefield went one for three in a 6-2 victory, earning two base on balls, and a run in the process. He was walked as the lead-off batter at the bottom of the first inning but was out at second as Soto grounded into a double play.

In the bottom of the third innings, Whitefield hit a single into right field, scoring on a Cabbage double into centerfield that helped open the scoring. Whitefield was also walked in the bottom of the seventh innings but didn't advance past second base.

On May 7, Whitefield went two for four in a 9-5 win, finishing with two runs, three RBIs and a base on balls - in the bottom of the eighth innings - during the contest.

He hit a double into centrefield in the bottom of the third innings which scored Anthony Mulrine to make the game tied at one-all, before scoring himself on a Cabbage singe into right field.

He added more runs to the Trash Pandas' lead in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run shot over the right-centrefield fence, which also saw Mulrine score again.

At the conclusion of the weekend, the Los Angeles Angels selected the contract of Whitefield, earning him a call-up to the Big Leagues by being added to the Angels' gameday roster.

CURTIS MEAD - MONTGOMERY BISCUITS

South Australian Curtis Mead appeared in five games for the Montgomery Biscuits, the Double A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, recording at least one hit in each game as the side hosted the Biloxi Shuckers to Montgomery Riverwalk Stadium.

First up, on May 3, in a 3-2 win, Mead went one for four with an RBI in the bottom of the first inning where he grounded out, but it saw Brett Wisely score, before hitting a two-out single into right field in the bottom of the third innings, making his way to second base before the inning was over.

On May 4, in a 8-4 victory, Mead went two for five with a run and three RBIs, courtesy of a three-run blast over the fence in left-centerfield in the bottom of the sixth inning that also saw Wisely and Greg Jones score.

On May 5, in a 14-5 win for the Biscuits, Mead went one for four with a run and two walks, first singling on a ground ball in the bottom of the first inning that cleared the infield and went into left field on a deflection. He made his way to second base but nothing eventuated further.

Mead was walked in the bottom of the seventh inning and, although he stole second base, didn't advance anymore, as he was also walked in the bottom of the eighth inning, making his way to third base on an Austin Shenton single into centrefield, before scoring on a Kameron Misner single into right field.

On May 6, Mead went two for four with a run in a 5-3 win, hitting a lead-off single into right field to start the bottom of the fourth innings, heading to third base on a Shenton single into right field, before scoring courtesy of a three-run shot over the right-field fence by Grant Witherspoon.

On May 7, Mead went one for four, hitting a lead-off single at the bottom of the fourth innings, though was forced out at second base as Witherspoon grounded into a double play.

ROBBIE GLENDINNING - NORTHWEST ARKANSAS NATURALS

West Australian Robbie Glendinning appeared in five games during the week where the Northwest Arkansas Naturals, the Double A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals, travelled to Hammons Field to take on the Springfield Cardinals.

The first game Glendinning appeared in was the series-opener on May 3, a game in which the Naturals lost 12-5, with Glendinning going zero for four at the plate as the designated hitter.

Glendinning fared a lot better on May 4, a 13-3 win, where he went two for four, with three runs and two RBIs.

While he struck out in his first at-bat but was hit by a pitch in his second plate appearance at the top of the third innings where he made his way to first base. He got to third base on a Logan Porter single into centrefield, and came home to score on a John Rave single to shortstop.

At the top of the fifth innings, Glendinning blasted a two-run home run over the left-field fence, scoring himself, and Sebastian Rivero who had hit a single to lead-off the innings.

Glendinning hit a single into right field at the top of the ninth innings, and made it to second base after a Porter base on balls before he scored on a Rave single into left field.

On May 5, in a 9-6 win, Glendinning went one for five with a base on balls in the top of the first inning where he stole second base with the inning over before advancing any more. He hit a single into right field at the top of the third innings and made it to third base before the inning was over.

He reached first base on an error at the top of the sixth inning, making his way to second base on a Seuly Matias single into left field. Glendinning scored a run to put the Naturals 6-5 up when he came home on a Nate Eaton single into centrefield.

Glendinning went zero for three on May 6 in a 2-1 loss, but bounced back with a one for four outing with a run an two RBIs on May 8 in a 9-5 victory.

At the top of the fifth innings, Glendinning hit a sacrifice fly to score Tucker Bradley, and at the top of the ninth innings, he hit a single into left field that scored Maikal Garcia. Glendinning made his way to third base on a fielding error, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Eaton.

MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL

LIAM HENDRIKS - CHICAGO WHITE SOX

West Australian Liam Hendriks appeared in five games for the Chicago White Sox throughout the past week, earning a save in all five encounters. His third game of the week earned his 85th career save, cementing himself atop the leaderboard for the all-time saves leader for Australian-born players.

Hendriks' week, however began with a May 2 contest against the Los Angeles Angels at Guaranteed Rate Field, where he pitched one inning for the save, giving up zero hits and zero runs, while striking out Taylor Ward, Brandon Marsh and Mike Trout to finish the game 3-0 in the home side's favour.

On May 3, Hendriks ensured the White Sox held onto a 3-1 lead against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field as he pitched one inning for zero hits and zero runs with one strikeout, that of Jason Heyward to begin the bottom of the ninth inning. The next two batters popped out and grounded out as Hendriks earned the save and tied with Grant Balfour in saves by an Australian in the MLB.

On May 4, the reliever pitched the ninth inning, not giving up a hit or a run as the White Sox won 4-3. The bottom half of the final innings began with a pop-out and a groundout as Hendriks struck out Nico Hoerner to end the game, and make history with the most saves by an Australian in the MLB, while also emotional due to his grandfather's recent passing.

Hendriks returned to the mound on May 6, pitching the bottom of the ninth innings against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park, holding the White Sox to a 4-2 victory, not giving up a hit or a run, and despite issuing a base on balls, still recorded three strikeouts, and claimed another save in the process.

Back-to-back strikeouts to Franchy Cordello and Jackie Bradley Jr. saw the Red Sox down two, but not even a walk to pinch-hitter Christian Vazquez could derail the closer as he claimed the final out, striking out Jarren Duran.

On May 7, Hendriks was required to finish the game yet again as the White Sox were up 3-1, and just as he had previously, he came on at the bottom of the ninth and didn't give up a single hit or run on his way to his fifth save in as many games.

With the game going into extra innings tied at one apiece, the White Sox scored two in the top half, and called on Hendriks to close out the game in the bottom half. Even with a runner -Trevor Story - on second base as part of MLB's extra-innings tiebreaker rules and Story making his way to third base, Hendriks needed just eight pitches to see the three batters each groundout to claim to save.
