Rennia Davis to depart Sydney Uni Flames after being granted release

Despite playing only two matches for the Sydney Uni Flames, Rennia Davis has been granted a release from the club and will instead play in the Israeli WBL.

Minnesota Lynx's Rennia Davis has departed the Sydney Uni Flames despite only making her debut for the club on January 23 against thePerth Lynx.

The Flames granted Davis a release from her contract after she was bought out by a team in the Israeli WBL.

Davis first joined the Flames as a replacement player for fellow American import Stephanie Watts after she went down with a long term injury. The Flames had also just parted ways withDallas Wings's Chelsea Dungee.

Davis was drafted by the Minnesota Lynx in the WNBA with pick nine in the 2021 Draft, although a stress fracture in the foot that she sustained in the pre-season kept Davis out for the entire WNBA season.

Davis showed there was a lot to like about her in her brief time in the WNBL, especially in her game against the Perth Lynx.

Davis finished with a double double of 21 points on 50 per cent shooting, and 13 rebounds. Davis was strong beyond the arc sinking three triples, in a game where she was among the Flames' best.

Davis's release is effective immediately so she won't line up for the Flames tonight when they take on the UC Capitals at AIS Arena in Canberra.

Shaquita Snow who was doing a trial stint with the Flames has also been released.

The Flames will continue its 2021/22 WNBL campaign when they face the UC Capitals tonight at AIS Arena in Canberra at 6pm.
